The Legal Ombudsman advises that clients should allow their lawyer up to 8 weeks to try and resolve the complaint. If after 8 weeks your lawyer has failed to resolve the matter to your satisfaction, you can involve the Legal Ombudsman. You have up to 6 months (from the date of your lawyer's final response) to bring your complaint to the Legal Ombudsman. The Legal Ombudsman procedure is aimed at consumers and so, broadly speaking, businesses, charities, associations and so forth with a turnover in excess of £1m will not be eligible.
